Stuttgarter produces a flattened, globe shaped onion about 2 1/2 to 3″ in diameter when mature. The bulb has yellowish-brown skin, yellowish-white flesh, and a mild flavor. Used as both a green onion and for mature onions, it is a favorite for cooking and an excellent winter keeper. It is the predominant onion variety offered as sets in most stores. Long-day, open pollinated type. Harvest: August-September. Approximately 110-130 sets per pound. Hardiness zone 3-9.
